How to create android surveillance camera

Did you know that you can turn your android smartphone into a surveillance camera, almost like CCTV camera.

In this article i will show you step by step how to create a surveillance camera using android smartphones.

It's very simple, all you need to do is download an app called IP Webcam on google play store, don't worry this app is actually free.

Alright to demonstrate, i'm going to use an android smartphone and a laptop/computer, you can also use two android smartphone.

Here's step by step how to create android surveillance camera :
  1. download and install IP Webcam app on your android phone
  2. create WiFi hotspot on your android smartphone or use your home WiFi hotspot if you have one, (no internet needed, we need only the local wireless network)
  3. connect your laptop/computer to the same wireless network as your android phone, that means the computer and the phone are on the same network and can ping each other
  4. open IP Webcam app on your smartphone and then press the "Start server" button
  5. take a look at the bottom, you should see your phone ip address
  6. on your laptop/computer, open a web browser and write down the ip address found on step 5 along with the port number which is 8080 and then hit enter to go to that address, for example http://192.168.43.247:8080
  7. select flash, browser, java, or javascript as the video renderer
  8. select flash, HTML5 wav, HTML5 opus as audio player
  9. you should see video and sound coming from your phone

Basically the android phone that runs IP Webcam act as a server, while the computer/laptop that receive video and audio stream is the client.

So it's a client-server connection, and the client could be anything from laptop/computer or even another phone as long as they are on the same network and have a web browser.
